Try and contact your work colleagues the week before you return to work, just to gain an update about work, but also get used to having contact regularly with these people again.
Ask for the latest information from work, eg minutes/notes from meetings, newsletters, emails, written information - this will help re-focus your mind.
Decide what you prefer and feel comfortable with when you actually return in terms of:-
- Do you want people to talk to you directly about your cancer?
- Do you want people just to treat you normally?
- Do you want people to ignore the cancer?
- Do you not mind either way?
- Would you prefer to only have limited contact with colleagues for the first few days back at work.
Then if you feel appropriate, tell your employer your preferred approach.
Prepare for work as you usually would.
